Throughout history, architects and designers have sought to understand and define the spatial requirements of the human body. This project draws on the work of Leonardo da Vinci, Le Corbusier and Ernst Neufert, each of whom used systems of measurement and proportion to establish an idealised relationship between the body and the spaces it inhabits.

Yet no two human bodies are identical. We differ in size, shape, proportion, mobility and physical capability. Despite this individuality, the environments around us are largely designed through standardised dimensions intended to accommodate a collective idea of the human body—its movements, postures and the everyday tasks it performs.

This project places my own body within this relationship between individual and standard. Its dimensions and proportions are particular to me and, like every body, have changed with age. Through photography, I examine how my body occupies, navigates and interacts with the standardised spaces of the University of Europe campus in Berlin during a typical day, questioning the relationship between the measured, idealised body and the lived physical experience of space.
